Amarillo Identifies Ezekiel Almazan and Deven as Victims of Westminster Apartments Mass Shooting

 Authorities in Amarillo have identified the two young men killed in a devastating mass shooting at the Westminster Apartments early Sunday, as a stunned community grapples with another outbreak of gun violence. The victims have been named as Ezekiel Rudy Almazan and Deven, whose last name has not yet been publicly released, both lost in a sudden burst of gunfire that shattered a quiet residential complex.

The shooting occurred around 2:00 a.m. at the apartments located at 2415 Coulter Street near Westgate Parkway on the city's west side. Amarillo police responded to numerous frantic reports of intense gunfire and arrived to find a chaotic, heartbreaking scene with multiple victims suffering from serious gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second later died at a local hospital despite emergency efforts.

In total, nine people were transported to area hospitals, with at least five initially listed in critical condition and fighting for their lives. The scale of the violence overwhelmed first responders in the early morning hours, as paramedics worked urgently to triage victims and secure the area for investigators who would spend many hours collecting evidence from the sprawling apartment complex.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an earlier social gathering involving juveniles and young adults. The group had been attending a party at another location before relocating to the Westminster Apartments to continue the night. Several individuals who had been asked to leave the original party reportedly followed the group to the complex and attempted to force entry into an apartment unit.

Upon being confronted at the door, the individuals allegedly opened fire with what police described as a rifle-style weapon, unleashing a terrifying barrage of shots that residents described as sounding like machine-gun fire. The sustained, rapid gunfire woke neighbors several blocks away, many of whom called 911 reporting dozens of shots echoing through the normally peaceful neighborhood.

Ezekiel Almazan and Deven are now at the center of a growing memorial effort, as heartbroken friends and family share photos, memories, and emotional tributes online. Their untimely deaths have left loved ones searching desperately for answers and a city once again confronting the painful reality of young lives cut short by violence that appears to have stemmed from a dispute that escalated far beyond control.

No arrests have been announced, and police have not yet publicly identified suspects, though investigators continue to interview witnesses and review surveillance footage from the complex. Authorities are urging anyone with information, cell phone video, or knowledge of those involved to come forward immediately, emphasizing that community cooperation will be absolutely critical to solving the case.

The tragedy comes less than six weeks after a particularly violent day in Amarillo on March 22, when six people were killed and ten others injured in four separate shootings across the city.
